Pharmacodynamic properties

Levamisol is an anthelmintic with a broad spectrum. Levamisol has a lymph node stimulating effect (choline-mimetic), resulting in tonic muscle contractions, the parasite is paralyzed and eliminated. Levamisol is active on adult Ascaris stages and on larval and adult stages of pulmonary parasites.

Pharmacokinetic particularities

After oral administration, levamisol is rapidly absorbed, with high plasma concentrations being reached after 1-2 hours. Levamisol is distributed throughout the body and is converted into the liver into less active metabolites.

Within the first 12 hours after administration, levamisole is excreted approx. 40% via urine and then for the first 8 days approx. 40% is excreted via faeces.
